✅ If you’d prefer to understand how it works:
Selecting the correct borehole pump depends on multiple key factors like borehole depth, water yield, usage demand, pressure and distance to the tank or point of use. Keep scrolling through this FAQ to see the questions we usually ask to make sure you get the perfect pump for your needs.

We typically ask the following:
• How deep is the borehole?
• How many litres per hour can it produce?
• How many litres per hour or per day do you need?
• Where is the water going – to a tank or used directly (irrigation, house, etc.)?
• What is the elevation and distance from the borehole to the tank or house?
• Is any piping already installed, and what is the pipe size?
• Is there any existing infrastructure like tanks or filters?
• What is the water being used for – irrigation, residential, or industrial?
• Has the water been tested (e.g., high iron, salt, clay, etc.)?

In that case, we’ll design a dual-purpose setup, possibly with:
• A borehole pump to fill a storage tank
• A pressure pump or VSD pump connected to the tank for irrigation or pressure needs
This setup protects the borehole pump and ensures proper flow and pressure.
Dual-stage borehole pump setup: the borehole pump fills a storage tank; a pressure pump or VSD pump then delivers water to both irrigation and household supply. This setup protects the borehole pump and ensures consistent water delivery.

An oversized pump may:
• Pump faster than the borehole can replenish
• Cause dry running, damaging the motor
• Create excess pressure, increasing wear on pipes and fittings
A properly matched pump saves energy, extends pump life, and avoids unnecessary maintenance.

Yes. If your water has:
• High iron or sediment/silt → use a full stainless steel pump (plastic impellers can get damaged)
• Clay or fine debris → install a controller with auto shut-off that senses irregular current or pressure drops when water runs low
We can guide you based on your water test or visual signs like staining or grit in filters.
Water quality affects pump choice — sediment or iron needs a stainless steel pump, clay or fine debris requires a controller with auto shut-off to protect the system.

TDH = Borehole depth + vertical lift + friction loss
This value tells us how much pressure the pump must handle from the water source to the point of use or tank. We can calculate this for you with a few details like pipe length, elevation, and fittings.
Total Dynamic Head (TDH) is the total pressure a pump must overcome — combining borehole depth, vertical lift, and friction loss in the piping to the point of use or storage tank.

We often recommend the Vega 3HRI solar borehole pump (https://www.thewatersolarcompany.co.za/product-page/vega-3hri-solar-borehole-pump)or the 4" hybrid solar borehole pump,(https://www.thewatersolarcompany.co.za/product-page/vega-4-hybrid-solar-borehole-pump-ac-dc) depending on your application. These pumps are efficient, durable, and solar-ready. Ask us about solar kits (https://www.thewatersolarcompany.co.za/4-solar-borehole-pumps)and c(https://www.thewatersolarcompany.co.za/solar-pump-controllers)ontrollers (https://www.thewatersolarcompany.co.za/solar-pump-controllers)to complete the system.

Yes. We highly recommend pairing your pump with an auto borehole pump controller (https://www.thewatersolarcompany.co.za/3-4-borehole-pump-controllers)that provides:
• Dry-run protection
• Overload sensing
• Underload sensing
• Auto restart delay
• Auto Level Control
• Pressure Switch Input
This protects your pump from running dry or electrical surges, especially in areas with variable borehole levels.
