VSD Pumps Johannesburg – Sustainable Water System for School
Project type
Water Pressure & Storage System – Groundwater and Rainwater Reuse
Date
November 2023
Location
Johannesburg , Gauteng.
Problem Statement
During the construction of a new school in Johannesburg, the site’s high water table created excess groundwater that had to be redirected. At the same time, the client wanted to reduce municipal water dependency for non-potable applications such as toilet flushing for more than 2,000 students.
A sustainable, automated system was required to collect, store, and distribute groundwater, rainwater, and municipal water as backup — ensuring reliable supply and pressure during high-demand school hours.
Solution Provided
The Water Solar Company designed and installed a two-stage (duty/standby) 4kW VSD-controlled vertical multistage pump system, paired with 100L pressure vessels, to ensure constant and stable water pressure during peak periods.
Four 10,000L storage tanks (40,000L total) were fed via sub-drainage groundwater pumps and supplemented by rainwater harvesting and municipal supply backup.
The twin VSD pumps were configured with intelligent control, allowing energy-efficient operation and automatic switchover between duty and standby units for uninterrupted service.
Benefits to the Client
- Significant reduction in municipal water use by maximizing groundwater and rainwater reuse.
- Constant pressure supply for over 2,000 students, even during high-demand hours.
- Reliable redundancy through twin-pump duty/standby setup.
- Lower operating costs with VSD technology optimizing energy consumption.
- Environmentally sustainable solution aligning with green building goals.
